Where Now? has been co-commissioned by Shell, BP and Exxon Mobil as part of the oil industries Shearwater project legacy and their commitment to people living in the Tyne Tees area.

Project North East Links Policy - What we link to and why

This policy is intended to explain what sites we link to and why we don't follow the practice of indiscriminate linking adopted by some sites.

We only link to sites covering issues of interest to our target audience. We look at all sites carefully to assess the quality and reliability of the content. The ownership of the site may be taken into consideration in deciding whether to link to the site.

Factors include:

• Commercial sites designed to primarily promote company products or services will not normally be included but sites will be linked to where they provide relevant information or other reference materials appropriate to our target audience.

• In all cases, the ownership of the site must be immediately evident to visitors, with the owner's name clearly displayed. The site owner must take responsibility for the content of the site. Where a site links to other sites on the web, the appropriateness of these links is not evaluated. However, if information is collated from other sites within the structure of the site, the ownership of the source material must be made clear by the site owner.

• Sites that are linked to this portal must have content judged to be of substantial interest to visitors of Where Now?

• Sites that lack information content relevant to our target audience will not be linked. The content of sites must be of satisfactory quality in the opinion of the owners of the Where Now? portal.

• Sites for which there are grounds for doubting the accuracy of the content will be excluded. A site may be excluded if the site owner is unknown and/or there are grounds for doubting the accuracy/legality of the content or suspecting uncritical bias.

• Sites that in the opinion of the Where Now? portal owners contain material that is out-of-date may be excluded from the Where Now? portal. Exceptions will be made for sites containing historical data, for instance of projects which have now ceased but which may still provide useful reference material for historical research.

• If the main content of a site is further weblinks, the site will only be included if this is the explicit aim of the site. We will forewarn visitors if sites have poor navigation or very slow download speeds.

• Project North East is not responsible for the content or functionality of the external sites listed in the Where Now? portal. If any links fail, please e-mail: info@wherenow.org and we will update the portal.
